General Motors expects 2,500 Chevrolet Volt sales in August

Electric Car

General Motors Corporation (NYSE: GM), a United States-based automaker, expects to have sold more than 2,500 of its Chevrolet Volt model in August, the electric car’s best sales month ever.

However, the vehicle is not likely to meet the company’s original sales projections of 45,000 vehicles for 2012, having sold only 10,666 units in the first seven months of the year, despite this showing an increase of 272 percent on the sales figure for the same period last year.

The company announced earlier this week that it will idle production at the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant, where the Volt is made, from September 17 to October 15, 2012, to install equipment needed to produce the 2014 Chevrolet Impala.
