Mazda Motor Corporation (TYO: 7261), a Japan-based automaker, is developing an all-new rotary-engine RX-7 sports car.

The vehicle is to be launched in the United States by 2017. MX-5 programme manager, Nobuhiro Yamamoto, has reported that the model will use the automaker’s new 16X rotary engine.

The model features special catalytic converters and combustion principles borrowed from Mazda’s SkyActiv technology, and an aluminium body shell.
