Opel, a subsidiary of General Motors Corporation (NYSE: GM), has confirmed that it will stop vehicle production at its plant in Bochum, Germany by 2016.

The automaker is taking this step as part of the automaker’s ‘Drive Opel 2022′ initiative, and is aimed to help Opel reach a break-even point over the coming years.

Opel officials confirmed plans to end vehicle production at the Bochum plant following the end of production of the current Zafira. The automaker will not produce vehicles in Bochum but expects to retain its warehouse operations beyond 2016 in a bid to retain workforce in the area.
