Volvo Car Corporation, a Sweden-based automaker, has launched its new Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection system at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

The system is to be equipped in several of the company’s vehicles by the end of 2013. It is capable of recognising pedestrians and cyclists on the roadway via the vehicle’s on-board radar and camera systems.

Doug Speck, senior vice president of Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Volvo, said, ‘Our solutions for avoiding collisions with unprotected road users are unique in the industry. By covering more and more objects and situations, we reinforce our world-leading position within automotive safety. We keep moving towards our long-term vision to design cars that do not crash.’
