Mercedes-Benz, a subsidiary of Daimler AG (NYSE: DAI) (FWB: DAI), is developing a ‘mini G’, which will share its platform with the new A-Class small car.

Car has reported that the automaker is developing a smaller SUV inspired by the G-Wagen, and which will compete with Land Rover’s updated Defender model. The vehicle is likely to be called the GLG, and is to arrive at dealerships by 2015.

The model features G-inspired round headlights, fender-mounted turn signals, boxy rear taillights and an external spare tyre. It will be available with a range of petrol and diesel engines.
